On the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), the Entertainment Program Production Department of Vietnam Television has produced a documentary series titled Hanoi Corner, which has been airing on Morning Coffee since October 1. The program offers viewers rare historical footage and encounters with witnesses of important events in Hanoi's history, from the 60 days and nights of defending the Capital, through the 9 years of prolonged resistance, and to the 80 days and nights leading to the city's liberation. Alongside these historical events, the series also highlights the lifestyle and culture, emphasizing the elegance and refinement of the people of Hanoi.
Speaking about the Hanoi Corner series, a representative of the production team said that they had painstakingly searched for rare historical material in Hanoi’s archives and were assisted by historical experts during the verification process for each episode. The series tells stories such as the unyielding spirit of the suicide squad fighters during the 60 days and nights of defending Hanoi, or the event on September 19, 1954, when President Ho Chi Minh spoke to commanders of the 308 Pioneer Division at Hung Temple about the mission to take over the Capital. Another highlight is the historical march into Hanoi on October 10, 1954. Through these historical materials, the documentary series helps viewers gain a deeper understanding of this significant historical event, which marked the victorious conclusion of the arduous and heroic resistance against the French. It aims to inspire a sense of national pride among viewers, especially the younger generation.
In addition, Hanoi Corner tells stories about the people and culture of Ha Thanh. Hanoians take pride in the elegance that has shaped the cultural character of this thousand-year-old capital. This elegance is reflected in the way they walk, dress and communicate.
Through Hanoi Corner, viewers will find many familiar images: a heroic Hanoi depicted in classic wartime films, a romantic Hanoi in the autumn breeze, or the melodies of beloved songs about Hanoi. They all evoke memories of a breathtakingly beautiful Hanoi from every street corner, showing a city that embodies both the old and the new, growing and developing without losing its soul or identity.
Hanoi Corner is expected to help the younger generation gain a deeper understanding of the history of this ancient capital, while also serving as a way for young people to express their deep gratitude to the generations who sacrificed their lives for national independence and unity. At the same time, it aims to ignite and nurture the spirit of patriotism and national pride, encouraging the youth to continue building the Capital by overcoming all challenges and difficulties.
