The construction progress was accelerated in order to complete the bridge after 13 months despite impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The bridge, which spans Lach Tray River, received total investment capital of 2.265 trillion VND (100 million USD).
The bridge has been built to replace the degraded old one that connects the centre of Hai Phong with the Do Son tourism site and is also a gateway connecting with Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway and Hai Phong-Quang Ninh Expressway.
The reinforced concrete steel bridge measures 456m in length and 30.5m in width and features six lanes. The bridge connects the 353 road with Lach Tray Road on the main traffic axis to the inner city.
Head of Hai Phong Transport Construction and Investment Project Management Board Do Tuan Anh said that the old Rao Bridge has degraded after more than 40 years in operation, while the density and volume of vehicles is increasing. Thus, the building of the new Rao Bridge to replace the old one was an urgent task.
