Grand meeting marks 90th anniversary of Party

While recalling the 90-year glorious history of the CPV, Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong noted with pride the great victories of the Vietnamese revolution and the strong and comprehensive development of the country.

On February 3, 1930, three communist organisations gathered to unite and form a party called the Communist Party of Vietnam. The founding of the Party was an important milestone and turning point in the Vietnamese revolution, the Party General Secretary noted.

He highlighted the Party’s glittering milestones over the past nine decades, stating that since its inception, the CPV has soundly combined the targets of the workers’ movements and the patriotic movements, the interests of the working class and the nation, and became the true vanguard for the working class, labourers and the entire nation of Vietnam. The CPV has already led the people to achieve great victories of historical significance that have defined an era.

Over the past 35 years, the cause of renewal has gained many history-making achievements, proving itself as a comprehensive and thorough revolution in the new period. From a poor and backward country, Vietnam has risen to become a middle-income developing country with a stable social and political outlook; national independence and territorial sovereignty has been maintained; external relations have been expanded; and the country’s position has consistantly been improving in the international arena.

The Party chief affirmed that the reality of the past 90 years has proved that the Party’s correct and wise leadership is the decisive factor for all victories of the Vietnamese revolution.

Expressing his deep gratitude for the merits of Uncle Ho, the leader of the Party, heroes, martyrs, compatriots and comrades who fought bravely and sacrificed themselves for the longevity of the nation, the Party leader called for greater responsibility to build a strong and comprehensive Party.

The entire Party, people and army should strive to overcome challenges and continue to promote all of its potentials, advantages and resources to make a definitive change in all fields to achieve higher results in 2020 - a year of special significance, he stressed. He also added that this is the last year of the term to implement the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress, in which the county will organise party congresses at all levels towards the 13th Party Congress; celebrate many important political events; while taking over the dual role of ASEAN Chair and non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council.

On behalf of Party members nationwide, 87-year-old Ha Ky who has 70-year Party membership expressed his pride and deep sentiments to the glorious Party and beloved President Ho Chi Minh.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Thuy Linh, a student of the University of Languages and International Studies under the Vietnam National University-Hanoi, affirmed the resolve of the Vietnamese youth to uphold the tradition of older generations, study and work harder to contribute to the nation’s development.

A special art programme was also held during the meeting to celebrate the Party’s 90th founding anniversary. The programme featured famous songs praising the glorious path during the last nine decades of the Party, as well as showing deep felt sentiments towards beloved Uncle Ho, the spring and the nation.
