The Front held a meeting to review the damage situation in the northern mountainous provinces, under the chair of VFF President Tran Thanh Man, in Hanoi, on June 27.
Accordingly, the VFF has decided to provide Ha Giang and Lai Chau VND1 billion each to alleviate the local people’s losses.
Man assigned Hau A Lenh, his Vice President and VFF Secretary General, to directly inspect the relief work in the two localities.
The VFF President informed those present that there are many organisations and enterprises that have expressed their wish to organise donations to support the victims.
He urged the relevant authorities to effectively use resources for remedial work in order to avoid wastefulness and improper use, while maximising the nation’s fine tradition of unity and support for each other in distress.
Local VFF units should continue to follow the situation to timely report any changes to the VFF Central Committee for appropriate support.
The local authorities were asked to regularly update information on allocating goods, financial support and other resources to the victims’ families.
The latest statistics from the Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control show that up to 22 people have died and nine others have gone missing due to the flash floods and landslides, triggered by the torrential rains in the northern mountainous provinces, as of 6pm on June 27.
