FIFA rankings: Vietnam retain place in Asia's top 15
Vietnam defend their no. 1 place in Southeast Asia despite a one-notch fall in the latest FIFA rankings.
VTV.vn - Vietnam fell one notch to 97th position in the world but still retain their 15th place in Asia as the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced its latest men’s world rankings on July 25.

Park Hang-seo’s troops continued to defend their position as the no. 1 team in Southeast Asia with 1,232 points, followed by Thailand who moved up one spot to 115th in the world with 1,165 points.

Myanmar reported the strongest FIFA-rankings promotion among Southeast Asian teams this month, climbing from 138th to 135th. However, the three-notch jump was not enough to help them snatch third place in the region from the Philippines (world no. 126).

Despite dropping three places to 23rd in the world, Iran continue to hold on to their top ranking in Asia with 1,518 points, followed by Japan (world no. 33, 1,481 points), the Republic of Korea (world no. 37, 1,467 points), Australia (world no. 46, 1,436 points) and Qatar (world no. 62, 1,375 points).

Concerning the FIFA rankings’ top ten, Brazil jumped one notch to second in the world with their Copa America 2019 championship title. Some other Copa America participants also saw promotion, with Uruguay moving up three places to fifth, Colombia up five places to eighth, and Argentina up one place to 10th position.

The Vietnam men’s national football team will attend the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup from September 5, 2019, to June 9, 2020. Park Hang-seo’s side were drawn in Group G, together with the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
