El Nino causes serious damage to rice crops in Ca Mau province

El Nino caused serious drought leading to a shortage of water that should have been used for preventing saltwater intrusion. High salinity caused estimated financial losses of nearly 700,000 USD.  For damaged areas, Ca Mau agriculture sector recommended that farmers improve soil and shift their focus to shrimp farming before the Lunar New Year. For the blossoming rice areas, farmers must take care and prevent saltwater intrusion until finishing the rice harvest.
