Destinations to Explore for World Tourism Day2025
VTV.vn - This year’s World Tourism Day theme, Tourism and Sustainable Transformation, shines a light on the growing movement toward more thoughtful, responsible travel.

As traveller attitudes evolve, so too does the understanding of what it means to make a positive impact. Booking.com’s Travel & Sustainability Report 2025 deep dives into the evolving mindset of Vietnamese travelers, revealing an accelerating shift towards conscious travel. More than half of Vietnamese travelers (69%) are now mindful of tourism's effect on local communities, not just the environment.* Vietnamese travelers are increasingly committed to supporting the economies of the destinations they visit with 79% wanting their travel spending to benefit local economies and 83% hoping to leave places better than they found them.*

Recognizing this shift, Booking.com has curated a list of Asian destinations making meaningful progress, where travelers and locals are helping to shape a fairer and more sustainable future for tourism.

Ba Vi, Vietnam

Set against the rolling forested peaks just west of Hanoi, Ba Vi is an inspiring example of how nature and culture come together. Travelers can trek through bamboo groves, explore hidden waterfalls or immerse into the cultural traditions of the Muong and Dao people through visits to traditional craft villages. Designated as a future national tourism hub, Ba Vi is promoting eco-tourism, wellness retreats and sustainable farming to protect its forests and support local livelihoods.

Con Dao is one of the country’s most important sea turtle sanctuaries, with extensive programs to protect nesting beaches and ensure the survival of one of Southeast Asia’s largest green turtle populations. Travelers can witness turtles nesting under the stars, join rangers in releasing hatchlings, and participate in community initiatives that support the island's delicate ecosystems. Beyond its marine life, Con Dao also has a rich cultural heritage, with historic sites and a growing focus on sustainable tourism supported by local communities and eco-conscious resorts.

Ninh Binh, Vietnam

As part of Vietnam’s focus on eco-and community-based tourism, Ninh Binh champions responsible travel with initiatives like limiting tourist boats in Tam Coc-Bich Dong and promoting homestays run by local families. These efforts protect both fragile ecosystems and ancient village culture. Travelers can row along serene waterways in the Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve or cycle past rice paddies framed by limestone cliffs. Immersive experiences like visiting local markets, cooking, and working alongside farmers offer a glimpse into the heart of rural life
