VTV.vn - Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh presented scholarships to 500 Cham ethnic students who are living in difficult circumstances in Ho Chi Minh City at a ceremony held in the city on September 14.

The scholarships, worth from VND500,000 to VND2 million each, were handed over to students from 14 districts in the city with an aim to encourage the recipients to overcome their difficulties and achieve higher results at schools.

The scholarships were raised by the Fund for Ethnic Minority Students and kind-hearted organisations, collectives and individuals nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ngo Minh Chau, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee, reported that the city is now home to around 8,000 Cham ethnic people, who are established as one of the third largest ethnic minority community in the city.

He hailed that Cham people for having positively taken part in the city’s social movements and activities and actively integrating into the society.

He called on Cham ethnic people to make greater effort in their studies, thus making contributions to their community and the city in the future.
