This December, the Kindness Bus visited a very special shelter, a place preserved not only by memories of war, but also by decades of steadfast love from an extraordinary woman now in her eighties.
Joining the revolution at the age of 14 and living through years of fierce conflict, as well as the losses that followed the war, Ms. Tran Thi Cam Giang, affectionately known as Ma Muoi, made a deeply moving decision: to take in children suffering from the effects of Agent Orange who had nowhere else to turn. What started as just a few children has grown into Thien Duyen Shelter, a shared home for more than 70 disadvantaged kids, sons and daughters who are lovingly cared for by Ma with everything she has.
The house has been home to these children for more than four decades. Though the small dwelling has stood firm through the years, time has inevitably taken its toll. Old furnishings, broken equipment, and mounting shortages have become part of everyday life.
Moved by Ma and the children, the Kindness Bus quietly prepared practical gifts for the shelter: a television, refrigerator, electric fans, and a water purifier. These everyday necessities, though modest, are essential for daily living, and giving them is a genuine gesture of shared care meant to make the small home warmer and more complete this winter.
Alongside these gifts, the children of the shelter secretly joined the Kindness Bus in creating a deeply meaningful surprise. They wrote letters and small cards by hand, carefully forming each line to express their love for Ma Muoi. As the clumsy, heartfelt words were read aloud, the room fell silent. Then, one by one, the children stepped forward and wrapped Ma in tight embraces.
The December journey of the Kindness Bus concluded with such simple, human moments. There was no fanfare, no display; just the meeting of kind hearts, reminding us that wherever kindness is planted, love will always find a way to bloom.
The Kindness Bus, accompanied by THACO - Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company, will be featured on the Kind Deeds fanpage. Please stay tuned to follow and support the journey.
