COVID-19: Vietnam stays clear of new coronavirus cases with 249 recoveries
VTV.vn - The Ministry of Health on May 12 confirmed no new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the community, retaining the total number of positive cases at 288, with 249 having fully recovered from the disease.

On May 11 with eight patients discharged from the Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases No 2, the overall total of cured patients rose to 249 (86%) in the country.

Among the 288 recorded cases so far, 148 are imported ones and were isolated immediately after they entered the nation, and the remaining 140 were community-associated cases.

According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the remaining 39 patients are receiving treatment at health facilities throughout the country, of which 8 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 virus once and 11 others negative at least twice.

As many as 11,929 people having close contact with the confirmed patients and returning from pandemic-hit areas are being kept in quarantine, including 329 at hospitals, and the remainders at concentrated isolation areas, and at home or places of residence.

Regarding the 91st patient, who is a British pilot and currently the most severe case in the nation, the Ministry of Health was considering a lung transplant for him last week, however, according to experts from several major hospitals he cannot be given a lung transplant yet due to severe infection. The patient’s lungs are condensed and his test results for the novel coronavirus have come out both negative and positive multiple times.

Vietnam has seen no COVID-19 deaths so far and has gone through 26 days without community transmission.
