VTV.vn - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vu Chien Thang has sent a congratulatory letter to leaders of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha, monks, nuns and laypeople on the occasion of the Buddha’s birth anniversary.

The letter said that due to Covid-19, celebrations of the Buddha’s birth cannot take place as usual this year.

Therefore, it is hoped that Buddhist leaders will encourage their followers to comply with guidelines of no mass gatherings and celebrate the Buddha’s birthday in an appropriate form to ensure the safety of all Buddhists and the community at large.

He underlined that celebrating the Buddha’s birth in this special circumstance will bring about tremendous values and peace to everyone.

On May 18, Thang visited and extended his best wishes to the Most Venerable Thich Thanh Quyet, head of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha in Quang Ninh Province.

The Deputy Minister spoke highly of the sangha’s activities in collaboration with the government to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and promote national development.

He also expressed his hope that the sangha will continue in motivating monks, nuns and laypeople to join hands in the fight against Covid-19 and take part in the upcoming National Assembly and People’s Council elections.

On May 20, a delegation of Dak Lak Province leaders visited several Buddhist temples in Buon Ma Thuot City to extend their wishes of joy and peace to local Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and laypeople.
