Central region develops new rice varieties

To resolve this problem, the National Agriculture Extension Centre and the Agricultural Science Institute for Southern Central Coastal Vietnam have developed short-term rice varieties, capable of adapting to climate change while still producing high yields.

These paddy fields are the first in Phu Yen Province to grow the DV108 and ML48 short-term rice varieties. After the first season, the results have convinced farmers.

Phu Yen Province is home to about 58 thousand hectares of paddy fields. Traditionally, farmers have used low-quality seeds for mass planting, sometimes up to 160 kilos of seeds per hectare. This results in higher costs and low effectiveness. In addition, the traditional rice varieties take longer to grow, which means they are more prone to natural disasters.
