Bodies of 22 soldiers killed in Quang Tri landslide found

The victims were from the central provinces of Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Tinh and were part of Defense Economics Division 337 under the Military Region 4

They were in the barracks in Hướng Phùng Commune, Hướng Hóa District, at around 1 a.mSunday when the landslide hit

Rescue efforts began on Sunday morning and continued until dark. Bad weather delayed their search but 13 bodies had been found. At 5 a.mon Monday nine excavators and hundreds of people resumed the search for the missing personnel. The last body was found at 2:30 p.mMonday.

The incident originally happened at 1:25 a.m. on October 18 in Cop hamlet, a location where 27 officers and soldiers of the division had been staying as part of efforts to help local residents overcome the consequences of the recent natural disaster. Five individuals were saved in the immediate aftermath of the landslide.
