Senior officials have outlined the agenda and a list of documents to be adopted at the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meeting. The proposed agenda for the AMM-48 and related meetings will cover urgent issues to ASEAN development, including the birth of the ASEAN Community later this year and the ASEAN Vision for 2015-2025.
The agenda will also deepen ties with partners and widen their involvement in the regional architecture and strengthen ASEAN’s central role in peace, stability and development in the region.
Senior officials also discussed international issues of concerns, including boosting the member country commitments in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, Southeast Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free-Zone, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and drafting a Code of Conduct in the East Sea.
Mr. Le Hoai Trung, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said: “Every country recognises that peace and security is a must to develop sustainably and co-operate between these countries. Regional security, especially in the East Sea, will be a focus of discussion for ASEAN countries and partner countries in other regions”.
The 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will officially kick off on August 4th, followed by ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting with partner countries, including the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF). The ARF will see the participation from 27 countries, and will discuss regional and international security matters.
