VTV.vn - The Vietnamese team claimed seven more titles – three in swimming, three in athletics and one in chess – on September 20, increasing their gold medal collection at the ongoing 9th ASEAN Para Games in Malaysia to 25.

Nguyen Hoang Minh secured his third gold in this year’s Games after finishing first in the men’s 1500m T12/13 race with a time of 4:41.30. His previous two titles were won in the 400m and 800m T12 events.

Vuong Chau won a gold medal in the men’s F42/43 discus throw competition with 605 points, while Nguyen Thi Hai added another in the women’s javelin throw F56/57 competition.

The three swimming titles went to Trinh Thi Bich Nhu in the women’s 100m breaststroke SB5 event, Vi Thi Hang in the women’s 100m breaststroke SB6 category, and Nguyen Thanh Tung in the men’s 100m butterfly S11 discipline.

Nguyen Thi My Linh and Nguyen Thi Minh Thu brought home the first gold medal for Vietnamese chess after finishing victorious in the women’s team standard chess B2/B3 event.

On the same day, Vietnamese athletes also captured 12 silver medals – three in chess, four in swimming and five in athletics – and six bronze medals – four in chess, four in swimming and seven in athletics.

As of 5.30pm today, Vietnam temporarily stood in fourth place with 25 gold medals, behind Indonesia with 62, Malaysia with 51 and Thailand with 29.

The ASEAN Para Games is a biennial multi-sport event held following every Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) for ASEAN athletes with physical disabilities.

Vietnam has sent a team of 142 athletes to the Games, competing for medals in eight events, including swimming, athletics, powerlifting, chess, badminton, bocce, football for the visually-impaired and table tennis.
