14th National Assembly election results announced
VTV.vn - The national Election Council held a press conference on Thursday to announce the results of the 14th National Assembly election.

A total of 496 candidates were elected to the 14th National Assembly among the 870 candidates running for the 500-seat national assembly.

During the election, some individuals called people not to cast their ballot on social networks. Answering question about its impact, Deputy National Assembly Chairman affirmed

"The election was successful. Over 99% of voter cast their ballot. This means that their acts didn’t work and voters understood their right to vote." - Phung Quoc Hien, Deputy National Assembly Chairman, Member, National Election Council.

160 delegates were re-elected. Answering questions on its effect on the quality of the National Assembly, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Phùng Quốc Hiển said this was similar to previous elections.

"There were some 33-35% of re-elected deputies in past terms. This time there are 160 deputies, which is within the range of 30 to 35%. The re-elected deputies are the core of the NA while the newly-elected can play an equally important role. The proportion of re-elected deputies this time doesn’t affect the NA activity while it makes the NA fresher." - Tran Van Tuy, Head, NA Committee for Deputy Affairs, Member, National Election Council.

At the event, members of the National Election Council also said that there were only few occasions where people cast votes for other people and this was addressed. The council has also solved some mistakes during the election so they didn’t affect the result.
