Hue Central Hospital applies new technique treating small tumours

Stereotactic radiosurgery or SRS is a non-surgical radiation therapy used to treat functional abnormalities and small tumours of the brain.

The first patient to be cured with this new application at the hospital was a 65-year-old man. Radiosurgery was performed on the Elekta Axesse, a medical linear accelerator providing a dedicated solution for image-guided stereotaxy including SRS.

The radiosurgery takes 15 minutes without anaesthetic, meaning patients can leave hospital soon after the radiosurgery.

The medical equipment was adopted from Sweden and can treat tumours in the body, such as liver cancer, pancreatic, pelvis, and some other treatments.
