Vietnam elects first NA chairwoman
VTV.vn - Vietnam’s National Assembly named Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan the chairwoman for the 2016-20 tenure this morning. She is the first woman to hold the position of National Assembly chairperson.

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan received a 95.5 percent approval rating, as 472 out of 484 attending members cast their votes. Immediately after being elected, the new chairwoman vowed to fulfill all missions assigned by the Party, the state, and the people.  The chairwoman also assumed the position of chairperson of the National Election Council of Vietnam. 

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan was born on April 12, 1954 in the southern province of Ben Tre and holds a master’s in economics. She became vice chair of the National Assembly in 2011, and member of the Politburo in 2013.
