Around ten kiosks were completely destroyed by flames that engulfed a part of Phu Quoc Night Market early on Monday morning.

There were no casualties, and the unaffected sections of the market remain open to visitors.

According to police reports, the fire began at around 3:00 am on Monday at a food vendor inside the market.

As most of the kiosks in the area sold flammable goods, the fire spread quickly toward the market’s management office.

Local firefighters were dispatched to the site where three fire trucks were able to put out the fire.

Huynh Quang Hung, deputy chairman of Phu Quoc, arrived at the scene to oversee the firefighting efforts.

The fire was eventually extinguished at around 5:30 am, having burnt down as many as ten kiosks at the market.

Phu Quoc authorities are looking into the cause of the fire as well as assessing the damage.

No casualties have been reported so far, as the market was closed at the time the fire broke out.

According to Tran Quoc Binh, head of the Phu Quoc Night Market Management, the section of the market affected by fire has had its water and electricity supply cut off for reparation and safety reasons.

The remaining areas of the market that were not permanently damaged or destroyed will remain open as usual, Binh said.

Phu Quoc Night Market, located at the center of Phu Quoc Island’s vibrant Duong Dong Town, was opened in 2012.

Open from 5:00 pm until midnight every day, the market has grown to become a popular nighttime destination for visitors to the southern island, administered by Kien Giang Province.
