The US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service or APHIS has officially signed a document specifying standards for importing Vietnamese star apples. This ultimately means that the US has opened its doors to vu sua, provided they meet their requirements. This is the result of over 15 years of negotiations between APHIS and the Vietnamese authorities. The criteria for assessment includes origin, quality, safety and packaging. All star fruits entering the American market must undergo irradiation and receive a certification by APHIS.
