The state president made the comments at a workshop on the US Vietnam Prospects for 2017 and Beyond in Hanoi on Friday. At the event, the state president encouraged US businesses to invest in energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, finance and banking, education and training, and tourism.
Speaking at the event, State President Tran Dai Quang noted that relations with the US had seen significant strides in recent years. Bilateral trade had increased from US$15 billion in 2008 to US$52 billion in 2016. Meanwhile, Vietnam remained the fastest growing export market for the US in the past two years.
The prospect of a bilateral free trade agreement between the US and Vietnam still exists and US President Donald Trump's attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Vietnam demonstrates that the US maintains an interest in promoting bilateral ties.
