Vietnam to play friendly with Myanmar ahead of 2020 Olympic women’s football qualifiers

VTV.vn - Vietnam’s women’s football team will play two friendly matches with the Myanmar squad in their final preparations for the second round of the AFC qualification tournament for the 2020 Olympic women’s football event

The plan was agreed on by Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Tran Quoc Tuan and President of the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) U Zaw Zaw during their recent working session.

At present, the Vietnamese team are on a training course at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre. As scheduled, coach Mai Duc Chung’s side will depart for Myanmar on March 18 and will have several days to prepare for the two friendly games against the hosts, slated to take place in Mandalay on March 21 and 23.

The second AFC qualifying round for the 2020 Olympic Games will bring together 12 teams, divided into three groups of four. The participants will compete in a round robin format to decide the three group winners, who will join wild card holders Australia, China, the Republic of Korea, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Thailand in the third qualifying round.

Vietnam have been placed in Group B, together with reigning West Asian champions Jordan, Hong Kong (China) and reigning Central Asian champions Uzbekistan. The group matches will be hosted in Uzbekistan from April 1 to 9, with Vietnam playing their opener against the home side on April 3.
