VTV.vn - Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue and leaders of the Ministry of Finance, ministries and branches yesterday attended marked Vietnam achieving 400 billion US dollars in trade turnover.

According to the General Department of Customs, on December 12th, 2017, the customs system recorded 400 billion US dollars in export and import turnover. After 10 years of joining the WTO, Vietnam's import-export turnover has increased four times. As a result, Vietnam's WTO export rankings increased 50th to 26th and from 41st to 25th in imports in 2016 and will rise in 2017.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue emphasised that the 400 billion US dollars milestone was thanks to the efforts of the whole country, each business, farmer and customs department. The achievement also confirmed the importance of foreign trade for economic growth.

The Deputy PM also said Vietnam has witnessed trade surplus and the surplus is expected to reach over 3 billion US dollars this year in the past two years. This would help increase the country's balance of payments, make an important contribution to stabilising the exchange rate, control inflation, and help the government complete or even exceed the 13 socio-economic targets set for 2017.
