The state president asked Ambassador Osius to convey his thanks to President Trump for his recent letter on bilateral co-operation between the two nations. The two sides need to maintain high-level visits and contacts, State President Quang said, stressing that this is significant to strengthening mutual understanding and trust. The State president urged the US to continue its support for Vietnam in addressing consequences of the American war, particularly projects to detoxify Agent Orange/dioxin and remove bombs, mines and unexploded ordnance. For his part, Ambassador Osius noted that the comprehensive partnership between the US and Vietnam had developed. The ambassador spoke highly of the role of Vietnam in hosting APEC this year, including the first APEC Senior Officials' Meeting in Nha Trang, adding that the US president was considering attending the 25th APEC Summit.
