Vietnam claims fifth gold medal at AIMAG 2017

VTV.vn - Top female Muay fighter Bui Yen Ly added a gold medal to Vietnam’s tally at the ongoing fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG 2017) in Turkmenistan, on September 21.

She beat her Iranian opponent, Y. Fatemech, with a score of 30-27 in the women’s 51kg final match, thus securing the solitary title for the Vietnamese Muay team at the Games.

Before securing the AIMAG title, Ly was also crowned champion at the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In the women’s 63.5kg final, Vietnamese fighter Truong Thi Hong Nga dropped out against her Thai competitor, W. Janejira, thereby settling for a silver medal.

Ly’s victory lifted Vietnam into seventh place in the medal standings by the end of September 20, with five gold, six silver and nine bronze medals.

Vietnam’s previous gold medalists include weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan (men’s 56kg), weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh (men’s 62kg), long jumper Nguyen Tien Trong and Kurash fighter Tran Thi Thanh Thuy.

The top three positions belong to Turkmenistan, Thailand and Iran, with 59, 13 and 13 gold medals, respectively.
