White House Deputy Press Secretary Lindsay Walters issued a statement on Monday after Beijing increased tariffs on 128 U.S. products in response to U.S. duties on imports of aluminum and steel.
China on Monday urged the United States to revoke protective measures that violated rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to bring the bilateral trade of related products back to normal.
While the U.S government plans to impose a package of 60 billion US dollars in annual tariffs against Chinese products, China's plan is only to hit 3 billion US dollars in U.S goods with tariffs. The Chinese tariffs are widely regarded as modest in size. They are seen as a warning shot to the U.S. administration.
