On Thursday, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and 6 related ministries and agencies held discussions on short and long-term solutions for the handling of a massive amount of unidentified imported scraps at many of Vietnam's seaports.

At the meeting, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment proposed that relevant authorities should enhance the review of importers of scrap materials, and actively transfer the imported scrap to port with fewer inventories.

The ministry also urged others to speed up the classification and handling of scrap containers this month, resolutely requiring shippers to re-export or destroy shipments of infringing goods. Currently, in Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong, there are nearly 6,000 scrap containers in stock, many of which have been there over 90 days, causing serious environmental pollution.
