Processing rice husks to protect the environment
More than 500 tonnes of compressed rice husks are produced as fuel for factories in Phong Dien district
VTV.vn - Rice husks have been a headache for people living in Thua Thien Hue province's Phong Dien district for a long time.

Every year, after harvesting, the amount of rice husks left over causes pollution to both air and soil. But now, this issue has been solved thanks to the efforts of one man.

Born in the rice growing region of Phong Bình in Phong Dien district, Tran Quoc Dai, a farmer, has witnessed how straw and rice husks are burned after harvesting and cause air pollution. In such times, his village and neighbouring areas seemed lost in smoke. This worried Dai so much that he became determined to find a solution to the problem.

Dai turned this thought into action. Now, he owns the only rice husk processing workshop in Phong Dien district. Every year, his workshop produces more than 500 tonnes of compressed rice husks as fuel for factories in the area. He also receives orders from neighbouring provinces. This business has produced substantial income for Dai’s family.

According to the local authorities, Dai's model for the rice husk processing workshop will be expanded in the future. They hope that with this move, the issues of fuel shortage, deforestation for fuel, and pollution will be reduced.
