The traditional art of Xoan singing, which originated in the northern province of Phú Thọ, was the first case where an Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding was upgraded to an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO.

According to UNESCO, this has shown the great efforts local authorities and people have been putting into preserving the genre. The province is also continuing its work in preserving its heritage.

These efforts are aimed at not only preserving the art but also helping improve local livelihood.
