The plan is based on two areas: the west with seven provinces and the east with five provinces. Each plan boasts extensive tourism products. In addition, the region will focus on 5 national tourist destinations: Thới Sơn Isle in Tiền Giang Province, Phú Quốc Island (Kiên Giang Province); Năm Căn mangrove forest in Cà Mau Province; Tràm Chim national forest and Láng Sen Wetlands Reserve (in Đồng Tháp & Long An Province respectively) and Sam Mountain in An Giang Province.
