Related to the fact that Uber and Grab have continually launched promotion campaigns and discounts to compete with conventional taxi firms, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said, during a press conference on Friday, that it is inaccurate to conclude enterprises violate the laws when they have a lot of promotion.
The Deputy Minister also said the Ministry will cooperate with other state agencies in supervising mobile app based transportation. Prior to this, taxi associations of Hanoi and Vietnam sent complaints to the Department of Trade Promotion, reporting that Uber and Grab violate some articles in the Competition Law. For example, the total time of promotion in a year cannot exceed 90 days or the maximum time for a promotion campaign do not exceed 45 days.
