Localities gain more autonomy over commercial cars - The Ministry of Transport plans to authorise local governments to administer commercial vehicles, contracts and issues associated with the transport industry. Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Hong Truong has proposed this solution.

According to Truong's suggestion, the ministry will set target numbers for taxis and other commercial cars. It is actually the locality's job to determine the specific number in compliance with these targets. The ministry has implemented many reforms in transport management such as digitisation and new transport models.

However, the sector is now facing emerging issues. Many cars without official contracts with Uber and Grab are using these applications to make profits. This has been causing unfair competition in the sector. The ministry will not provide anymore permits to new transport apps until localities say otherwise.
