VTV.vn - Khanh Hoa Province commenced the construction of a dam on Cai River in Nha Trang City on September 25, aiming to prevent saline intrusion.

The dam will be built 75m from Duong Sat Bridge towards the downstream of Cai River in Ngoc Hiep Ward, Nha Trang City.

It will be built in the form of a pillar dam with five valves. Above the dam will be a bridge, spanning 400 m in length and 26 m in width.

The dam has an investment of VND760 billion (US$32.7 million) and is expected to prevent salinity intrusion in Cai River in the dry season and ensure flood drainage in the rainy season.

It is also expected to ensure a freshwater source for 500,000 local people and tourism activities as well as the cultivation of nearly 2,000ha of agriculture land.

Director of the Management Board of Khanh Hoa Development Projects Chau Ngo Anh Nhan said that the dam is a work to welcome the 18th Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 tenure.

The project is scheduled for completion in late 2022. At that time, the existing temporary saline prevention dam at Vinh Phuong Bridge will be removed, Nhan noted.
