Japan consumes most Vietnamese shrimp

VTV.vn - Vietnamese shrimp exports into the Japanese market reached a total of 493 million dollars within the first 3 months of this year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (aka. VASEP) .

This was a 7% increase as compared to the same period last year. This double-digit growth has lifted Japan's position from 3rd to 1st on the list of Vietnam's top shrimp consumption markets. Japan is currently importing Vietnamese shrimp for 12 USD per kilo on average. This price is higher than that of other competitors such as Indonesia and Thailand. Recent studies have shown that Japanese consumers have an appetite for processed shrimp.
