It has achieved a number of positive results in poverty eradication. It is also considered one of the most efficient economic cooperation programmes in the Mekong region. Tourism is one of the 8 main focuses of the GMS programme, the others being transport development, energy, telecommunications, human resources, environment, agriculture, and commerce. Vietnam is currently investing in the DMS programme and will host the 6th GMS summit in Hanoi.
