VTV.vn - A national conference about child marriage in Vietnam was organised by the National Committee for Ethnic Affairs in Hanoi on Thursday morning.

According to statistics, child marriages among ethnic groups still stands at 26.6%, 18 times higher than among the Kinh majority people at 1.4% and 10 times higher than the country overall, which stands at 2.5%. More than 100 delegates from 30 provinces throughout the country discussed why child marriages still occur at such high rates and proposed solutions. They emphasised the need to provide women and girls with education, healthcare and shelter when needed, which required the efforts of many agencies. Child marriage has many negative consequences, including domestic violence, dangerous complications in pregnancy and childbirth and poverty.
