Arts programme celebrates 25 years of action for biodiversity
Since it ratified the Convention on Biological Diversity in 1994, Vietnam has made great strides in nature conservation and biodiversity preservation.
VTV.vn - An arts programme was held in Hanoi on May 22 to celebrate 25 years of action for biodiversity since the establishment of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Attended by 300 guests from Vietnamese and foreign agencies, organisations, and experts operating in biodiversity conservation, the programme featured a variety of performances, reportages and talks which highlight Vietnam’s efforts in this work over the past 25 years.

A discussion on ‘Action for the Future’ was also held as part of the programme, which featured presentations of the expert opinions of delegates from the Vietnam Environment Administration, Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, the United National Development Programme (UNDP) Vietnam, and ASEAN Biodiversity Hero Dang Huy Huynh.

On the occasion, Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in coordination with the UNDP, awarded prizes to winners of the debate contest on ‘Rational use of biodiversity resources’.

Since it ratified the Convention on Biological Diversity in 1994, Vietnam has made great strides in nature conservation and biodiversity preservation. A system of management agencies, legal frameworks, and conservation areas for biodiversity have been established, and endangered species of wild fauna and flora have been protected by law through action plans.

Actions have also been taken to raise public awareness of the importance and role of biodiversity in people’s lives and in the country’s sustainable development.

In recent years, the Vietnamese Government has actively participated in international treaties and strengthened cooperation in addressing issues related to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
