A workshop discussing the role of the animal husbandry sector in achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Agenda to 2030 in South East Asia was held in Hanoi on 16 November.

At the workshop, experts assessed that Vietnam is one of the countries that has been recognised for achieving the Millennium Development Goals, and the sector plays a major role in that.

In the period from 2011-2016, Vietnam saw an average growth rate of 4.5-5% a year for the livestock sector. This sector accounts for 30.5-32% of the total agricultural production value.

The livestock sector is now focusing on improving added value, environmental protection, food hygiene and safety, helping the country achieve the UN's sustainable development goals.

The conference helped countries determine priorities for the animal husbandry sector's development, as well as create opportunities for co-operation.
