VTV.vn - Various activities have been held across the nation to mark the 43rd anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975-2018).

On April 27, the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of Defence held a meeting with former military generals and commanders under the chair of Minister of Defence General Ngo Xuan Lich.

General Lich highly appreciated the former senior military officers for their valuable contributions, together with the Central Military Commission and the leaders of the Ministry of Defence to successfully implement the Vietnam Defence Strategy, thereby meeting the requirements for the country’s development and defence in the new situation.

★ The same day, the Hanoi authorities unveiled three new streets in the city named after three historic figures, namely Nguyen Lam, Dao Van Tap and Mai Chi Tho. All of the three streets are in Long Bien district.

★ A meeting to mark the 43rd anniversary of Liberation Day was held in Can Tho city on Friday with the presence of Tran Thanh Man, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.

On the occasion, the municipal Party Committee awarded 275 Party membership badges to local Party members.

★ The same event was also organised by the Binh Duong province authorities on April 27. 271 local Party members were honoured with Party membership badges at the ceremony.

★ The Hanoi Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union held a ceremony to sum up the 2018 Youth Month and launch the Youth Volunteer Campaign 2018 on April 27.

Last month, the Youth Month in the capital city achieved positive results with more than 1,000 youth works and targets reached. The organising committee commended 39 collectives with typical achievements in the campaign.

On the occasion, the Union launched the Youth Volunteer Campaign Summer 2018 and several startup and English contests.

★On Friday morning, Tra Vinh province held a ceremony to hand over and confer the title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother to 41 local mothers, whose husbands and children laid down their lives in the fight for national liberation. Earlier, the State President decided to posthumously confer the title on 38 mothers who passed away, while three others that are still alive received the noble title on this occasion.

Tra Vinh has established four missions to visit and present gifts to 147 families of wounded soldiers and martyrs in the province.

★ The Dong Nai province authorities joined representatives from Military Region 7 to lay wreaths and offer incense to martyrs at Dong Nai Martyrs’ Cemetery in Bien Hoa city on April 27.

The same day, the province opened two special exhibitions, featuring hundreds of images and objects related to the past resistant war and the Spring 1975 Victory to liberate the South.

★ The Quang Tri leaders and locals offered incense at a range of local martyrs’ cemeteries and historical sites on Friday, to pay tribute to those who laid down their lives for national liberation and reunification.

★Twenty outstanding young soldiers under the Border Guard force were honoured in two separate meetings by the Border Guard Command and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union on Friday. They were honoured for their excellent achievements and contributions to local development throughout the frontiers across the country last year.
