995 workers rescued from South African gold mine

A violent storm knocked out the electricity supply on Wednesday night trapping the miners underground.

The miners had to stay close to the mine shaft to access food and water and ensure sufficient ventilation. Power was restored on Friday morning and all 955 miners were safely rescued. Employees who were trapped underground are set to receive thorough medical examinations and trauma counseling, together with their families, if needed.
